In most cases, a pasteurisation plant is installed immediately before bottling. A buffer system is required to absorb any unsteadiness of the filler. For this purpose, we have standardised our tank routing system.

But there are also some disadvantages with a buffer tank. The buffer tank is always located on the product side already being treated. Microorganisms getting into the product at this point can no longer be combatted. Therefore the internal cleaning of a buffer tank requires a considerable effort. In almost all cases, a buffer tank is additionally equipped with a vacuum valve, through which contaminated ambient air is drawn into the tank during CIP cleaning.
Another important aspect is the substantial cost for the cleaning and the sterilisation of the buffer tank. And in addition, there is a high consumption of gas (headspace of the tank). Our buffer tank replacement system has none of these limitations. Cleaning is done as inline pipe cleaning with the pasteurisation plant. Any unsteadiness in the filler is compensated. The buffer tank replacement system and our pasteuriser series are perfectly harmonised. If the buffer capacity is exhausted, the pasteurisation plant is switched to circulation run.

When using a buffer tank, the headspace of the tank must be ventilated with a sterile gas under controlled conditions. During CIP cleaning, the cleaning agent must be distributed effectively throughout the tank including all tank inserts. To perform this important function reliably over the entire plant lifespan, we have developed our own tank top units. Our tank top units are also suitable for use in normal storage tanks or, as shown below, as a safe and hygienic attachment for heavy rotary mixers.
